Yesterday I showcased, sort of, a dating website dedicated to beautiful people where you have to be voted in to be a part of the site. I have never used a dating site in my life, and I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t qualify for Beautiful People.com. I’m not hurt by that, I’m realistic about my looks. Though I guess, back when I had low self esteem and I thought I was beastly looking, I’d probably spend some time at the Ugly Bug Ball.
That’s right, the Ugly Bug Ball is a dating website for those people who…maybe don’t fit the mold of classic beauty. And much like Beautiful People.com, there are some people who are a part of the site, that I personally would not consider ugly, much like Beautiful People…they deny people who aren’t necessarily ugly, and accept people who I wouldn’t put into the category of beautiful. And, much like Beautiful People, Ugly Bug Ball makes a lot of sense.
According to the site, “not pretty” people make up about 70% of all daters. And that makes sense. What we as Americans find aesthetically pleasing is a high hurdle to jump for the average person. Of course, I don’t agree with this site, as I think MOST people are okay looking. They aren’t beautiful and they aren’t ugly. I can go anywhere and about half the women there are not bad to look at, they dress nicely, and they use makeup and the like to make themselves look better. Ugly Bug Ball also states that those who aren’t necessarily pretty, most likely have a good personality. Another thing I have to argue. I think ugly people who know they’re ugly are bitter and angry with the world. Not all, but enough to where they add on to the unattractiveness with a nasty personality.
Not that beautiful people aren’t nasty too. That’s why beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Even people who are considered hot can be really ugly if their personality is poisonous and they’re just venomous scum. Those kind of people just have symmetrical faces, and slim bodies, but make me cringe at the sight of them. So, the not so pretty, don’t be discouraged, you’re beautiful on the inside! Yeah, you’ve heard it before, but that’s what Ugly Bug Ball is banking on.
Personally…if you’re looking for love, if you’re doing what needs to be done to get out there and meet people, then don’t shoot this site down. Again, what one person thinks is hideous may not be hideous to you. We live in a world where beauty is kind of a weird thing. So don’t knock it until you’ve tried it.
