Everyone will meet someone in their life who will be a perpetual liar. All they know is how to fabricate the truth to their advantage, so that they look like the victim, or they look like the hero. Some do it for attention, or for boredom. We’ve all encountered them at some point in our lives. Some of them are our friends or our loved ones, and others we my never see it again. And I think they do it because…the truth sucks. People who seek the truth, people who prefer to live in a world of actuality, live a really hard life. Its much easier to lie to others, and eventually, lie to ourselves.
Lying can be an indication of intelligence in childhood. Kids are learning to use their mind in ways that they hadn’t thought of before. They’re using their imagination, they’re discovering that there isn’t just “the truth”, but variations of it. Kids will lie, because they’re learning the nuances of their reality. But most eventually grow out of it. We realize, that fallacy leads to more fallacy, leads to having to try to remember all the different versions of the truth.
Of course, people still do little white lies, to protect a person’s feelings, or to make a story more exciting. And as we grow older, we learn that we can’t lie about everything. Yet, some people out there, never change. Its the only reality they know, the one they made up in their head. Maybe they knowingly do it, or maybe they forgot what the truth was, but to encounter this person, day in and day out…you learn that you can’t believe a word they say. Not even when they’re “sincere”. They dig their own grave, and you need to find a way to get away from them.
I’m not saying not to lie, to fib, whatever. We’re human, we’re going to do it. But you need to know when to stop, when it becomes too much. Because…you can lose people, you may even lose very important people. You’re going to be the boy/girl who cried wolf. I think we forget the moral of that story. But to those of you out there who can do nothing but lie…people keep keep telling me there is karma, I don’t necessarily believe that, but if there is…then they say pay back is brutal.
