Does it make sense? I hope so, and I hope no one else has ever said that before, because I got that idea from something I heard yesterday after doing the latest Geek Love Radio. I’m pretty sure next week’s episode is about break ups and divorce. I’m never sure because I’m a fickle, fickle pickle. Either way, when I was talking with my friends about next week’s episode, we began to converse…though I’m tempted to use the outdated misuse of conversate…about how our past really does help shape our future. Because when we are in that horrible break up/dumped/divorced phase, we say things to guard ourselves.
Also…people are cool being single? Well, I think I mentioned it before, yet aren’t people always seeking others out? Don’t people want love? Even the crazy people talk to themselves, preferring the company of their delusions to just be by themselves. It is our desire to be loved, our desire to be…desired, that makes us completely irrational. We can try to be all macho or whatever the equivalent is for women and just sleep around and never commit, but it really is in our nature to love and be loved. Its a human construct we made up, but we made it up because we feel it. Its a description of that crazy feeling we get that’s indescribable.
So when we have to go through that break up, that heart break…we steel ourselves. We say things we probably mean at the time, but that changes over time. The funny thing, it doesn’t matter who you are or what your situation was or is…we cling to the past, we cling to what was or the fact that things ended and we keep our eyes there. Our heart is still in the past, and the less we look forward to the future, the more we get lost in ourselves. Some feel they’ll never date or get married again. Yet, we will find ourselves dating and marrying or at least having a boyfriend/girlfriend again. We don’t live in a world of absolutes. Anything can happen.
I know that some people have jumped on the bandwagon of Scott Pilgrim, I know I did, and I love it. I enjoy the movie and the comic, and its entertainment to be sure, but they do go through the concept of breakups and dating, and cheating and the effects of the break up. Its there, its humorous and its pretty accurate. We can’t run away from our past, but we can face it, and move forward. Like I said, you only miss the past because you’re not aiming for the future.
