Time to start drinking beer, because apparently, its GREAT for you.

I guess I’ve had it wrong all this time. This tasty, tasty beer here is the key to a long life, and so much more. You’d be surprised by the power of alcohol, or maybe you’re not. All I know is, that my alcohol resistance, or allergy will no longer be an excuse, and I am here to take up the mantle of drinking…but not to the point of being wasted. Maybe you’re wondering why someone as straight laced as me would be so gung ho about becoming a new found social drinker, and willing to fight the need to shudder at the taste of alcohol. A new study has made me seen the light.

If you were to compare me and my ex, I was the easy designated driver and she was the “heavy” drinker. I didn’t mind it so much with its underlying advantages (cough), but little did I know she was at work, living longer than me. That’s right, studies show that those who drink in moderation….though she did do it in excess…extends a person’s lifespan? Yeah, maybe you heard about red wine with its antioxidants and what not, but I am talking booze in general will give you a longer life.

At the end of this post is the science of how this all works, but this blog isn’t about how it all works, its to expand on the fact that it does. And its not just a chemical thing, like relieving stress, and allowing you to relax and release inhibitions, but it has a lot to do with the flippin’ social aspect. Isn’t that incredible? I mean, I knew that drinking was a social thing, and allowed you to be more bold and go up to people you normally wouldn’t, but its the fact that you’re becoming more social that makes it all worthwhile, that helps you live longer.

Not only are you more social, but you are more willing to put yourself out there, you’re more likely to have more friends and get married if you’re a drinker. It only benefits you to be a social drinker, or consuming alcohol in general. Because, apparently, people who are more alone are more likely to die sooner than people who have friends and loved ones around them. If you’re out there, and you have more friends, the longer you will live. I find that fascinating, as I may have just a handful of friends, but I understand the importance even more.

We need people. We need human touch as well. We need those things, as we live our lives. You actually get sick if you’re a hermit, and don’t go out, and don’t interact with people. That’s friends and family people. Merely the act of going out with people adds time to your life. And couple that with drinking, as well a bar scene or a night at home drinking wine, allows you to be more out there, to talk more and to make more meaningful relationships. Imagine, people who drink, have deeper, more meaningful relationships, probably because those who like the liquor, put themselves in more social situations. Either a bar or a party where you’re more likely to meet someone, talk to someone, and make new friends. Not to say nondrinkers can’t do that, but they’re less likely to find themselves in those kinds of situations as…a lot of places where people like to gather involves alcohol.

Of course, alcohol just helps. If you have other ways of relieving stress and are actually extroverted and social without the need of beer or hard liquor, then you’ll be getting the same benefits of living long and all that good stuff. Its just amazing how liquor helps us achieve those things that help us live longer. So raise up a glass, and drink up me hearties.
