Everywhere in the news you find out that celebrities, athletes and even teachers are joining a fun trend of sending out pictures of themselves naked through their phones. Thanks to the internet and cell phones we now have the ability to show off our body parts to show our love or lust towards those people around us. Now, I’ve personally never done it, that I can remember at least. I don’t ever have this idea that a girl I’m into or with would want to see pictures of my crotch. I don’t know any woman who wants to see that actually. Of course, if you turn the tables, I have received pictures from ladies, via e-mail and cell phone, so I don’t know if I can complain about that. So I bring this up because every week you hear about someone new sending out photos and it always surprises me. Are these people, celebrities especially, really that ignorant? Haven’t people learned by now that anything you send out there into the ether can and WILL find its way onto the internet?
Look at Bret Favre, who recently sent penis photos to Jenn Sterger. For those unaware, he is a retired, unretired, retired, unretired football player for the Minnesota Vikings, and Jenn Sterger was a former New York Jets employee. I’d be kind of surprised if you didn’t know that or hear about the scandal on the news. So radio stations and personalities have made fun of Favre as the photo of his groin has circulated the internet and is now, no longer a secret to the world. So he is ridiculed for his anatomy, and we are reminded once again, that the internet is a public place and privacy is just an illusion.
You don’t hear much about naked guys though, because most guys don’t care. It could be because the male body just isn’t as pretty as a female body, but its kind of funny that the double standard is, if a famous female’s naked body is leaked out, it is rarely ridiculed and mostly coveted. Is it because we’re still a male-centric society? Or is it because the female body is just so much hotter. Internet porn even thrives on the videos and pictures meant for a girl’s boyfriend, and because of a breakup, those images and videos find their way online. Its a cruel world where we feed off the innocent and the willing. Its just funny that people complain that their personal photos find their way on the web. If you don’t want your pictures available to the world, don’t take them. Of course, unless you really trust the person you’re with.
Have you ever taken nude pictures of yourself and sent it to a significant other? Have you ever sent out images of your ex after a breakup? What do you think about all this controversy and double standards?
