I’m not going to lie and say I don’t view pornography. If that makes me less of a man, then ladies, you should look at your own men and realize, they like porn too. But when I was younger, porn was consumed mostly two different ways. Through magazines like Playboy, or through videos that you got through nefarious means. There was an industry, with some kind of production value, some kind of budget and there were stars. Women and even men who were recognized in the industry for their well endowed-ness. It was taboo, for the most part and videos cost a lot of money. If I recall, and its been awhile, but they cost from $20 to about $50. Just like the price of DVDs and Blurays of today. There was even the running gag of young boys hiding their nudey mags under their beds or between the bed and box spring or in their underwear drawer. That world is now forever gone, and the world of porn has been taken into the hands of the horny.
Now I’m writing this post because its kind of amazing how porn has evolved. In the geek world its called pron, there are websites where images and videos are easily accessible. Deviant sexual behavior is more openly talked about and displayed for the world to see online, and a lot of it can be gross and a lot of it can be illegal, but its all there for people to consume. Human beings are sexual in nature, that’s a pretty obvious statement, and when we’re not getting any, men have a tendency to find it elsewhere. But that doesn’t seem to be enough just to watch porn, but the industry of amateur porn is growing in where men and the women who tolerate them are participating in the acts of sex and recording it. Whether the girlfriend or date or lay knows or not, its become a way of bringing up new content on the internet.
If you were to go to a porn website nowadays, you’ll find there are very few professional looking videos. The lighting is awful, the people aren’t always attractive, and the camera work is novice at best. But its free, its available and people are willing to go ahead and post their exploits for no other reason than the thrill of having it up there on the net. Of course, this is speculation, but I know how it feels to have your own sex video for yourself to watch and enjoy of your girlfriend and yourself. There’s something erotic and flattering when you watch the woman you’re into doing things to you that make you happy, especially when she isn’t around to give you the loving that you need.
So does this mean that the once billion dollar porn industry is dead? I mean you hear about the porn parodies of famous tv shows to hopefully bolster sales, but is it too late? I think it is. It doesn’t take much for a guy to get off, and I know some women appreciate the porn that’s out there already. Men are visual, and with amateur porn being more “realistic” than the pornography of yesteryear may make it better than it was before. Fewer fake breasts and plastic surgery, less lame acting, that always did seem unnecessary, and they’re in bite sized chunks. No plot points to sit through, no dialog to endure, just straight up what a guy is looking for.
I guess the only thing I don’t get is why men are so willing to go ahead and upload videos of themselves and why women are so eager to show off their body. Are there so many people out there with such low self esteem that they need to show off their body and strip for the camera in order to feel good about themselves? I mean, I don’t quite understand the need to share what was once considered a private and intimate thing. Maybe people do it because sharing is caring, or maybe its a way to get revenge on their ex, or maybe its just exciting to know that other people are getting off on what you’ve done.
