Whew, that was a long ass title. The last weekend before Valentine’s Day, aren’t you excited? When you’re single, one of the few things that you can feel good about is that you don’t have to worry about the “holiday”, where the gift, cards, and flowers are king. Unlike the real holidays, getting last minute Valentine’s Day gifts aren’t that difficult to do. We’ve already suggested making your gift. Why not make a stuffed animal for your girlfriend of her favorite video game or comic book character? Well, should you not have time to make your gift this year, here are some ideas that maybe you haven’t thought about, that your love…will…love. (And if none of these work for you, get her those roses, chocolates, and jewelry. It’s really difficult to go wrong with those. And ladies…well, maybe give him the rusty Sheriff’s badge or some “brain”, which I think that’s the appropriate slang. I feel old.)
For a lot of geeks and nerds, we don’t grow up, so some of the ideas here may not apply to you if you’re not a huge geek or nerd. But I figure, the older you get, the less meaning Valentine’s Day even has. I could be wrong. Still, I hope you can use some of these ideas and prepare for Cupid’s big day with some fun, lovin’, and a memorable time.
You can do flowers, you can do candy and you can do cards, but what about a comic book or a novel? At Cartoon Commune, you can create your own comic book about whatever you want. You give them the idea, and they make the comic book. Okay, I realize it’s a little late to bring this up, but if you need one quickly, they’ll throw something together that will be customized to you. And for next year, because I think this is a little late (which is awesome since I’m trying to give you last minute gift ideas, but trust me the rest should work for last minute presents), you can also personalize a book. A romance novel for your lady if she’s an avid reader will have you and her as the heroes of the book. Adventures about at Books By You where you get to pick the genre, and customize some of the elements of your story. A cool time and one I’ve done. It came out with some pretty good results.
Get a video game with romantic elements. Final Fantasy VIII is a good example where there’s a great love story intermixed with the good ole fashioned story and world of Final Fantasy. Sharing video game experiences is a great way to not only bond if you’re both gamers, but it’s interactive, which makes it automatically better than a Rom Com.
Maybe I’m going a little too nerdy, so I’ll tone it down a bit. How about a little roleplaying? (Okay, I lied.) Get some gaming books like Dungeons Dragons or Vampire: the Masquerade. Create some characters, do some dungeon crawling, meet the sexy elf (You know, your significant other) and then get your freak on. I’ve done this and I’ll be the first to admit that it’s not only fun, but awesome!
Okay, NOW I’m going to take it down a notch. Being romantic doesn’t just have to be tame, you can also go into the more sexual realm. Don’t be afraid to visit a shop that sells all sorts of accessories and toys you can bring into the bedroom. This of course, applies to both sexes. You can have a nice, intimate dinner and then you can bring out the leash, the cat o’ nine tails, the school girl outfit, the various vibrators and fantasy dildos, and get to the sexy time right afterwards. And sure, insert the passionate kissing and heavy petting in there if you’d like. But why make it another by the books kind of night? Take your sexual game up and get adventurous. It’ll be both fun and educational.
Another less nerdy thing to do as a last minute idea is actually do things around the house. If you like to put off chores or maybe you even don’t like doing any type of cleaning, sometimes the little things make the biggest gift. If your place is a mess, or things need to be repaired, or changed, or whatever the case may be, you sir can go and do those things, and do it awesome-ly. Feed her cat and get that cat a toy. Bond with her puppy, and teach it a new trick, fix up the house to where it’s so great that she’ll feel she went into the wrong home.
Finally, as if those ideas weren’t enough…okay, maybe they’re not enough, but hopefully you’ll be able to come up with something with these ideas, you can take her to a spa or hot springs. Romance isn’t just about food, even though many people go that route, which is fantastic. But if you want to try something different, a place where you can get pampered with your love in one way or another is a fantastic idea. Some may require appointments, and honestly, with Valentine’s Day on a Tuesday, you’re probably better off planning for a different day in the week. Spend some quality time soaking in hot tubs, or getting massages, or if you’re so inclined, you can manicures and pedicures together. Don’t worry gentlemen, men can get spoiled too, and honestly, it’s not too shabby and feels pretty good.
So there you have it, some ideas that you may not have thought of, that you can probably plan last minute, and hopefully give you something new and different to give this year. If you have any ideas, please feel free to write them into the comments section below.
