Welcome to the Online Friend Simulator. Because everyone could use a friend, even online. I’m Francis aka The Other Guy.
How are you doing? I hope you’re doing well. This time around I have Anthony Davis as a guest on the show. He wanted to talk about the Golden Rule, where you treat others as you’d like to be treated. We talk about the state of the world in regards to the rule, and yeah, it’s kind of heavy. Keep it light? Nah. But hopefully you get something out of it. It’s a fun conversation at the very least. “I love goooooolllllldddddd,” Goldmember.

Good to hear Anthony there with you Francis
Going into a deep sea wreckage, except for purposeful sunk artificial reefs, is going into a watery tomb. Thus there are laws protecting them as water graveyards; but that hasn’t stopped metal scavengers.
The best written villians/antagonists are those who believe themselves to be on the correct side of a conflict.
Quote seen while about “Relax and accept the crazy”
Dehumanizing, devaluing, deindividualizing, is a key way of getting one person to mistreat another person
We are human, it is in our nature to be fallible. To error is to be human, to forgive is divine.
The answer for speech which one disagrees with, is not less speech, but more speech.
Yes, while it’s true that we live in a world where there seems to be antagonists & protagonists everywhere….the main point that I was making, & I think I failed to get to it, is the point of morality and ethics….especially when it comes to The Golden Rule.
As diverse of a world we live in, essentially we do seem to be dealing with 2 things. 1. right & wrong & 2. good vrs evil
Both “right & wrong” & “good vrs evil” are relative terms & can be slightly different depending on the culture & values of a group. Every culture has its own tenants and beliefs when it comes to what is good for the greater whole. If an outside force comes in that is a bit disruptive then there is either compromise. expulsion, or a “us vrs they” mentality where a civil war happens.
Essentially though, I do think that The Golden Rule is instilled in us at birth…and is the driving force when it comes to a person’s psyche. As I stated before, as children we have a natural talent to accept difference and have a loving nature to our fellow man & things around us…but life happens and we are shaped by the people around us & the circumstances that we each face.
Morality & ethics are taught by the elders of a community, by influences in & outside of a group, and by one’s conscious….essentially the little voice that does tell us to live by The Golden Rule & also tells us what is “good or bad” for you….or those around you.
It just seems to me that we have forgotten the basic thing in the world today….The Golden Rule. We live in a culture where its “us vrs them” or “I & ONLY I are the most important ones in the world”.
Overall though, I do see some good….as I stated in the podcast, like: blood drives, food banks, clothing closets, & people giving to charitable causes of all kinds through crowdfunding & fund drives. Seeing little things like that does give me some hope & some assurance that The Golden Rule hasn’t been forgotten.
