Attack of the Mac

The Macbook Pro via Apple.comA few weeks ago I wrote a little ditty about how my computer was more or less in the crapper. Now, after much debate, research, and just plain curiosity, I decided my new computer of choice would be a Macbook Pro. Now, as a tech geek, I’m very familiar with the fanboi-isms and the craziness that goes with each camp. It’s like I had to join a faction, either Alliance or Horde, but in this case, I had no idea which was which. As a matter of fact, in a comment left by co-host Dani the Universe, she said we could not longer be friends if I owned a Mac product. Well, needless to say, that hasn’t happened. Of course, I never really told her I got this new computer in the first place, but that’s beside the point.

So, here I am, typing away with my new Mac, with it’s shiny OSX Lion, and I think to myself, why would anyone care? Well, because apparently, people still care about what computer you use. It’s like a status symbol. I see people all the time at a Starbucks or some other place with Wi-Fi and they have their Macbooks out, and they’re typing away while others with Windows laptops are just…typing away. In the real world, no one cares what computer you use, unless it’s something no one has seen before. But once you see that glowing Apple, most people are just fine and dandy to move on with their lives. So why is it so prevalent online? Why are the internet communities so torn?

Well, I personally don’t know, nor do I care. That rubbish is something that they can deal with themselves. If there’s going to be this weird underground war of the world with Mac vs. PC, so be it. I actually like my new Mac, and though it takes A LOT of getting used to, I find that it’s easy enough to handle, easy enough to miss some of the perks of a Windows PC and fun enough to embrace the perks of the OSX Lion. I don’t know how I lived without gestures and an App store! Everything integrates beautifully, and it’s clean and well, maybe it’s just because it’s a new toy, but I like it. Am I an Apple Fanboi forever? I’m “OS agnostic”. Throw me a Linux distro and I feel I’d be fine. But I wanted to try something new, and I find that my previous blog post was right. I spend most of my time on a browser anyway, can barely tell the difference. But for now, my “investment” is my baby, and I’m loving it.

So readers out there, where there seem to be a few. What’s your take on the war of Windows vs. OSX, PC vs. Apple? What operatiing system do you use are you a loyalist?
