I love gadgets, and honestly I don’t talk about them enough. I don’t have the money to go buy every gadget out there, but if I did, I would. Hell, the only reason I have an iPad is because I won it, so that should give you the idea of my socioeconomic status. But that’s beside the point. Of my little gadgets though that I enjoy is my Playstation 3. And with that in mind, my sister decided to get me hellip;a PlayStation Move for Christmas! Now, I know what you’re thinking. Motion control? Well, despite how unpopular it is, though it did sell millions worldwide, I actually enjoy motion control games. Especially if it has me hacking and slashing with a sword or mucking about, making spells with a wand. Either way, I think it’s cool and a little more than a gimmick.
Which may thus make you think that this post is going to be all about the awesome of the rather uhh hellip;sex toy looking Playstation Move. Yes, I know it’s an old joke, but once you actually own one, you can’t help but think, “Wow, if I had a gilfriend, she would use this for something else.”
If you own a PS3, I highly recommend you get this. It’s actually a lot of fun to play and use, the only problem is, there are not a lot of games that go with it. If you think about the games that are out for it right now, like Resistance 3 or even the packaged Sports Champions, they are great games to play, but ultimately limiting. Yes there are other games out there like Killzone and even Infamous 2, but in the grand scheme of things, you’re going to be hard pressed to find reasons to keep using this peripheral.
That’s the negative I see so far, the positive is that I’m actually not just sitting anymore. I feel like I’m interacting with the game, in a much more visceral way than the Kinect. Yes, I realize I sound like a fanboy, but when you actually have something in your hand and interacting with the game as a whole, that’s kind of awesome. Take Harry Potter games, with the wand. Swishing about the Move to make spells happen are pretty bad ass. And then getting a peripheral and turning the controllers into a servicable gun lookalike for first person shooters, well, let me just tell you, that gives me depth and accuracy and in the end fun.
Something I forgot to mention, is that the 1:1 movment with the controller and the screen is impressive. I move the controller, and it does exactly what I expect it to do on screen. Take table tennis and the archery game. It followed the Move so well that I must admit, I didn’t have to think about anything. The Kinect, which I also love, does take you out of the experience sometimes. When the camera is trying to track your hand and follow your movement, it can get…difficult. Still, they’re both great, but I own the Move.
So, I am happy with my gift. It’s a great alternative to playing a bunch of video games just sitting down. It’s also a great party game, that gets people up and involved. I realize it’s just like the Wii, but with the better graphics, and let’s face it, better games (which isn’t saying much), you most likely, sort of can’t go wrong with the PlayStation Move .
One last rant about this thing. It doesn’t come with a freaking USB cord to pair it with your Playsation! What the heck man!? A person pays so much, and you can’t even pair the dang thing? And yes, I did lose my original cords, sort of. They’re in a box somewhere and I got too lazy to look for them, so I purchased a whole new cord. Blah. Anyway, go try it out. Playstation Move. Good stuff.
