Welcome to the Online Friend Simulator. Because everyone could use a friend, even online. I’m Francis aka The Other Guy.

How are you doing? I hope you’re doing well. We are close to some big events, like an election and the turn of the year. So what is happening as a result? We are becoming more divided and more alienated than ever. And no matter the results of this upcoming presidential election, the purge of friends and family will continue and we learn, that we are all, no matter the history, no matter the love, we are all expendable.

As always, any and all feedback is greatly appreciated.

Thank you for listening. Please leave a review on Apple Podcasts or anywhere you listen to podcasts.

  1. Only about two dozen trick or treating people this year, first time I could hand out candy in over 4 years. Disappointed, but understandable. Still have a gallon and nearly a complete other gallon of hand sanitizer. Also hundreds of pieces of “fun” size candy left. Only a single nat20 normal size candy winner.

Politics 😱😓 My local area has become more extreme towards one direction, regardless of what is occurring nationally/federally. It worries me for the future as more extreme policies are possible. What do those not at the extremes have to do in that type of situation?
Elections are more than 4 times a year. There are midterms, primaries, special elections, etc. I only ask of others to be educated on the topics one chooses to vote on. I would also ask those who have not taken their civic duty seriously, by doing their research on topics and candidates, to consider abstaining. I have a family member be shocked on a change of policy, on an additional cost in their life; it was due to a policy which they had voted in favor of, but admittedly did not know what that vote meant. The family member only voted that way cause someone connected to their paycheck asked them to make that vote.

To maintain relationships, focus on what is in common. Don’t emphasize on what is in opposition to one another. Agree to disagree agreeably, why has that become so uncommon and unusual? Sometimes I have held my tongue rather than cause discord, even if I was made uncomfortable.

If one has been paying attention, I would argue that divisiveness began as early as 2000. An emphasis on tribalism, made smaller by ever smaller and stricter criteria. An emphasis on belonging to groups and identities.

I have lost but one friend over politics, and that I was willing to break with them ( a formerly influential comic book podcaster ( even got a character based on himself written into a few characters)). It was when they declared all who failed to conform to their political views as nazis. As nazis those persons are worthy of acts of physical violence befalling them. My level of friendship with that person couldn’t have been that important, if a threat of violence was easily leveled towards me. I and others who they disagreed with couldn’t have been that valued.

Oh a funny election thing was published by the Conan Late Night show.

Before it was a matter of survival to be tolerant of those who don’t exactly agree with what one believes in. Thus forming a community with those who aren’t fully in compliance with your beliefs as more common. With the accessibility of resources where one can live more disconnected from those around them, perhaps individuals feel less needing to be amicable with those who they don’t always agree with?

Where I live might become more strict with restrictions related to COVID19/Wuhan Flu. Hope that doesn’t actually occur and that illnesses don’t increase, and severe infections and hospitalized individuals don’t increase.

Congrats on continuing to have someone online you can connect to.

If the show is too fast one can reduce the playback speed. If it is too slow, one can always increase the playback speed.

Patreon? What perks does one get? How many patreon supporters do you have?

You’re not a terrible human being. It’s not like you have directly contributed to a crime against humanity.
