Welcome to the Online Friend Simulator. Because everyone could use a friend, even online. I’m Francis aka The Other Guy.

How are you doing? I hope you’re doing well. But unfortunately not everyone is feeling all that great. This time around, I talk about people who love misery. Everything they tweet and talk about is something negative, and though I appreciate that, it quickly becomes their identity. So I try to give some suggestions to help with that, as well as talk about seeking help, and being okay not being positive. Also, check out the podcast Introversion, where I guest with host Jay Kaslo, as we talk about social media, friendships, and so much more. Take a listen here:

It’s also the mailbag time. I forgot how email works and I was able to get into the email and I respond to some that have come my way, so thank you for your patience.

As always, any and all feedback is greatly appreciated.

Thank you for listening. Please leave a review on Apple Podcasts or anywhere you listen to podcasts.

  1. Hey Francis,

I think something you failed to mention here is the fine line between expressing your misery & just venting your feelings.

Both are very similar and expressing your misery is a self defeating & belittling endeavor.

Now, venting your feelings….& trying to get validation for your feelings is a wonderful thing but it can be destructive when you take the “I’m right & your wrong and I’m even better than you!” attitude.

  2. Fine & sane 🤞
Congratulations on a new beginning. Oh you’re already bumping, digitally? 😇
The Eeyore lifestyle, such is one outlook of existence. It takes one effort to pull someone up, than it is to allow people to give into the entropy that is inevitable.
You have been able to rise up from what others might view as an impossible place to recover from. Your life’s experiences could be a trailblazers guide for others to get out of a similar situation. Yah, the internet is a huge anonymity ocean, with strong currents which can drag one down, with few rocks to kling onto.
Do not sell yourself short. Your podcast is one of seven podcast (sometimes eight) I listen to on a weekly basis. While others might have a larger audience, yours is the one I feel most connected to.
Is there a death of grace, forgiveness, understanding, and civility? Can’t we agree to disagree agreeably? Or must we conform, or failing to do so, be attacked fiscally, emotionally, and or physically?
Online dating. There is a series of episodes which could be about that topic alone.
One day I hope you will feel comfortable to end your relative isolation/quarantine. When that happens I have a vlog/podcast idea. Mooings and Grazings. We go about trying places where one of us has not been to before, or had not been in a long time. We can switch between metropolitan areas, taking turns on who travels further. Try new food, share our thoughts. Like Fork Reporter but mobile and without the humongous blowtorch bandwidth. Thoughts?

Giving a shout out to Jeff’s SuperGeekedUp, nice.
Touching on discussing cancel culture, and the end of civil social discourse, interesting.
What is that quote about changing of political alignment and age? https://quoteinvestigator.com/2014/02/24/heart-head/
There is talk of the COVID 15, the gaining of weight. Yet there is research that increased weight is a co morbidity of this pandemic. Alcohol often leads to weight gain. Perhaps it can be a motivation to be healthier?
There is a such thing as a dating weight, like a fighting weight. At the same time, different strokes for different folks, and there are those whose preference differs from what is seen as normal who hunger for the husky.
Francis, the green card sponsor. Great that the internet allows for connections internationally. At least it is not via Cherry Blossoms, which has a long and storied history, so much that it was taught about in one of my ethnic studies classes.
Oh and Sleepless in Seattle > You’ve Got Mail, IMHO
Being an expatriate must be an interesting lifestyle, but it must also bring a new perspective to those around you and to the person living it.
Time is the greatest commodity we possess. It is finite and also easily squandered. But it one has experienced knowing some one near the end of their mortality, it is the most precious and valuable thing one can give.
